Halogenerator buying guide

Choose the right halogenerator

Everything you need to choose a halogenerator for your home, spa, gym or wellness centre: how they work, how to size them, what to look for and how to run a salt room well. From the UK distributor of Prizma.

What is a halogenerator?

A halogenerator is the device at the heart of modern halotherapy. It grinds pure, dry, pharmaceutical grade salt into microscopic particles and disperses them into a room as a dry salt aerosol. Without a halogenerator, a salt room is mostly decorative. With one, you can control how much salt is in the air, for how long, and reproduce the same session every time.

Quality matters. A good halogenerator grinds salt consistently into fine particles, keeps moisture out, is easy to clean, and lets you set salt output to suit the room size. Prizma devices use stainless steel and plastic parts wherever salt is in contact, and the professional models store programmes so every guest gets the same experience.

Which halogenerator fits your room?

Salt Room Size and Halogenerator Finder

Measure your room’s floor, choose how it will be used, and we will suggest the Prizma halogenerator that fits.

Ceiling height, ventilation and how airtight the room is all affect salt concentration. For a commercial salt room, ask us for a free room plan.

Seven things to check before you buy

  1. Room size and volume. Match the unit to the floor area and ceiling height. Too small a unit will not reach a useful concentration.
  2. Adjustable output. Look for grams per hour control so you can fine tune for the room and number of guests.
  3. Programmes and timers. Saved programmes make sessions consistent and staff training simpler.
  4. Salt quality. Use only pure, dry, pharmaceutical grade salt with no anti caking agents or iodine.
  1. Build and cleaning. Stainless steel parts resist corrosion. Check how easily the grinder can be brushed out.
  2. Placement. Units are usually installed in an adjoining technical room and blow salt through a wall, keeping noise out of the salt room.
  3. Support. Buy from a UK distributor who can advise on set-up, spares and servicing, and who understands UK regulations.

Building a commercial salt room

A successful salt room is about more than the halogenerator. The best rooms are calm, warm and easy to keep clean. Here is what we cover when planning a room with a client:

Layout

Seating for your target capacity, a separate technical space for the generator, and an entrance that keeps salt in.

Ventilation

Air extraction between sessions to clear the salt, sized to the room and session schedule.

Finish

Salt walls or panels, a salt floor or easy clean flooring, warm lighting and gentle sound.

Operations

Session lengths, cleaning routines, salt drying and storage, and client guidance before the first visit.

Halogenerator FAQs

What salt does a halogenerator use?

Pure, dry, pharmaceutical grade sodium chloride without iodine or anti caking agents. Keep it sealed and dry, as moisture causes clumping in the grinder.

How much salt does a session use?

It depends on room size and settings. Professional units are adjustable in grams per hour; small home units use only a few grams per session.

Can I put a halogenerator in an ordinary room?

Yes, for home units like the homeSALT, ideally a room with few electronics. Salt can settle on surfaces, so wipe them occasionally. Commercial salt rooms are best purpose built.
